Once upon a time, literally 12 years and 297 weddings ago, I used to be a teacher. And Betsy was in the 11th grade English class I student taught and she was always so sweet (and still is!) I just adore her and it was good to see Caitlin and Jimmy (2016 clients!) and Chelsea (also a student of mine back in 2008!)

We weren’t sure if this wedding would happen because COVID-19. Betsy and Ethan’s first date was down walking the Boston Bike Trail – and they’ve spent the entire year completely renovating their first home. It’s beautiful and Betsy moved in the night of the wedding! I loved her décor and their kitchen is a dream! Also, I have never seen such cute house numbers on the front of the house and I must now begin searching etsy for them (Allison said to me as we walked up “Oh you wish you had those huh?” and yes, I do!)

The wedding was not without challenges! The ceremony was able to be held this year with a casual at home party for the family while the big reception is postponed until next year, when it will hopefully be much safer to celebrate in a crowd of 200+! And of course, because it’s Pittsburgh, the rain came down just as the reception began!

But we were able to get some great photos in their new neighborhood, which makes the photos really special and sentimental to them. The suburbs are full of gems and we as photographers chase light, expression, pose, and emotion – in that order – and background is actually the last thing we focus on! Here’s a photographer’s secret – sometimes, what looks “blah” to the eye looks great in photos. And sometimes, a gorgeous scene in front of you doesn’t translate well photographically (due to dynamic range, dappled light, positioning, etc). We were able to use their neighbor’s yard and get tons of fun photos.

We will be celebrating with you next year – but until then, enjoy your time as newlyweds and your road-tripping minimoon!

Note to the couple:
Betsy and Ethan, thank you for letting us be a part of your special day! It was a pleasure to work with the two of you! We thank you for choosing Kristen Wynn Photography and wish you a lifetime of love and happiness always. Congratulations!
